Although the temperatures are still heavenly and the days (thankfully!) still sunny, here and there the first leaves are already falling from the trees. A fresh breeze stirs in the evenings, and the nights are becoming longer again. Autumn is on its way, and with it, the cultural season is kicking off once again! Pull your hats and scarves out of the closet, wrap your hands around a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and let yourself be surprised by a Dazzling Autumn.

Go outside!

If there’s one thing that makes people happy, it’s a brisk walk among the copper-coloured trees. Get some fresh air, enjoy all the natural beauty, hunt for chestnuts and spot birds — it’s closer than you think. In no time you’ll be wandering through the city’s loveliest parks, like De Prinsentuin, Vossenpark and Rengerspark. Fancy a longer stroll? Within 15 minutes you’ll be in Buuten Leeuwarden. In this large area you can roam for hours — and dogs are welcome. The Leeuwarder Bos and the Froskepôlle are gorgeous in autumn, too.

Warm terraces - Cozy

After a wander through the autumn, colour-filled city centre, there’s nothing better than enjoying Leeuwarden’s warm hospitality. Sip lovely wines, try a Grutte Pier beer, or savour a genuine Beerenburg from Boomsma. Relax beneath twinkling lights, beside crackling fires, or in the city’s cosiest cafés and restaurants. Good times are always close in Leeuwarden. Where will we find you this autumn?

Rainy day rescue! - Autumn

Autumn in Leeuwarden can be deceptive. One moment there’s clear sky and a lovely stroll through De Prinsentuin; the next, gusty winds and typical autumn downpours sweep in. In short, you might find yourself looking for shelter — but the better question is: “Where not?” Exceptional museums, comfy cinema seats, unique theatre and the best concerts offer fun and comfort during harsh autumn weather. Plenty of indoor options — see below for all our tips!
