11fountains Sneek

A man with a Horn of Plenty stands on a golden sphere in the middle of the water. The statue refers to Fortuna, the goddess of luck and the patroness of cities, families, and peoples. The overflowing horn symbolizes the material prosperity of the fortunate one who comes into contact with it. But the golden sphere constantly rotates on its axis, so that the water, just like the influx of fortune, becomes an unpredictable force. The abundance that happens to pour over us can be taken from us just as quickly by fate. Just look at the history of Sneek.

This fountain is part of the 11Fountains: eleven fountains in the eleven Frisian cities, designed by eleven artists from eleven different countries. 11fountains is an international art project for Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018, European Capital of Culture, conceived and curated by Anna Tilroe.
