From a weigh house to a delightful lunchroom. De Waag tells a rich history with a culinary twist.
In the past, it was mandatory for a market trader to have his goods weighed at the weigh house. This obligation applied primarily to wholesalers of meat and dairy products. The first mention of De Waag dates back to 1483, but it likely existed even longer. The Waag as we can still visit and view it today dates from 1598 and served until 1880. Nowadays, the building houses the brasserie/lunchroom De Stadswaag. With a sunny, spacious terrace and a cozy interior, this is certainly a location you shouldn't miss when visiting Leeuwarden!
Today, you can still visit the Stadswaag, in the form of a brasserie. You can enjoy a delicious lunch both inside (seating about 45 guests) and on the sunny terrace (seating about 120 guests).
