On this city walk, we’ll explore the Leeuwarden of painter Wybrand de Geest. In the 17th century, he was the city’s most prominent portrait artist. From 6 September, the Fries Museum will host a major retrospective exhibition about his work.
During this tour, we’ll visit the places where he lived and worked — uncovering some of the most beautiful corners of the city along the way. We’ll also tell his story through portraits: not only 17th-century masterpieces hanging in Leeuwarden’s finest buildings, but also contemporary portraits found right on the streets. Leeuwarden is home to an impressive collection of street art, much of it inspired by the old masters.
