This year, we will traditionally kick off the season in collaboration with Fries StraatFestival and this year we will even do that on the Saturday of the festival!

We will kick off the day with Wijkorkest. The Frisian neighbourhood orchestras (from Leeuwarden, Sneek and Grou) stand for enthusiasm and ultimate fun in making music together. Wijkorkest is an initiative of Het Generatiehuis that makes participating in art and culture accessible to everyone with Kunst in je buurt. Together, the musicians form a colourful group in an equally colourful line-up of instruments. They show that it is fantastic to make music together and that everyone can do it. The Frisian neighbourhood orchestras, led by conductor Guus Pieksma, will bring a diverse programme consisting of well-known Dutch and English pop hits. Singing along is allowed!

Afterwards, internationally acclaimed folk artist Greame James, known for his energetic and captivating music, will enter the Koepel in the Prinsentuin. This internationally acclaimed and captivating folk artist guarantees impressive live shows in which he combines a wide range of instruments as a one-man band. Graeme started his career as a street performer in Wellington New Zealand and after a four year tour of Europe and North America, with over 50 million streams on Spotify and publications in Rolling Stone among others, he is now travelling the world again.

The closing act of the day is Leiden singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Melle. He plays no less than 20 different instruments, it is especially this unique palette of sounds that sets him apart. He instinctively writes songs with beautiful and recognizable harmonies and his soothing voice that sounds like he is sitting next to you on the couch, but on May 24 he will really be in the Koepel in the Prinsentuin.
