Bouke de Vries: Unbroken
until 16 August
The major retrospective exhibition UNBROKEN, dedicated to the internationally acclaimed artist Bouke de Vries. This exhibition offers a unique insight into the work of an artist who transforms broken ceramics into new, surprising works of art in innovative and versatile ways.
De Vries, born in Utrecht and now based in London, originally trained as a restorer. His craftsmanship forms the foundation of an artistic practice in which vulnerability, transience, sustainability and repair take centre stage.
Decay and repair
UNBROKEN presents a selection of highlights from Bouke de Vries’s career, in which he explores the theme of decay and repair. Many of the works in the exhibition are based on historical objects, while also engaging with numerous contemporary cultural phenomena and the artist’s personal world. These include playful references to the Dutch television series Bartje and other childhood memories, tributes to the artist’s father and husband, as well as references to drug culture and war. In total, the solo exhibition UNBROKEN features approximately 95 objects and installations, including new works created especially for this exhibition.
