Simone de Jong Company – Kluizelaar

Simone de Jong Company – Kluizenaar (Hermit) has been made in collaboration with Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie as part of their youth festival Het Avontuur.

There’s a square object. Is it a house?
There’s a sound coming from inside. What’s happening in there?
A flap opens. Is there something inside?
What’s inside? Who’s inside?

Kluizelaar is a visual performance about a miniature house. The inhabitant isn’t home… but we can hear them. A poetic story about being alone and coming home. As Kluizelaar, this performance has travelled to Scotland, Ireland, France, Portugal, Israel, Egypt, and China. It was selected for the Dutch youth theatre platform TF Jong in both 2017 and 2018.

Simone de Jong Company creates infectious physical theatre for young audiences, full of imagination, humour, and playfulness. Using visuals, music and movement, the company aims to touch, challenge and inspire children — because in your imagination, you can live anywhere. From 2025 to 2028, the company will receive structural support from the Dutch Performing Arts Fund. Their new production Het grooote genieten will premiere in the 2025–2026 season. Simone de Jong herself comes from a background in contemporary mime and music theatre, and is also a children’s author. She wrote Het geheim van meneer Hartjes (Clavis, 2016) and Op zoek naar het groene goud (Clavis, 2021).
