Prison Tour Blokhuispoort

Step into the shoes of a prisoner and let yourself be amazed.

Every Saturday and Sunday, we offer an open guided tour with a former guard through the historic prison De Blokhuispoort, filled with impressive stories.

·         Saturday starts at 2:00 and 4:00 pm

·         Sunday starts at 11:00 am

Meeting point
We gather at the main entrance of the Blokhuispoort. Here, our guide will warmly welcome you.

Blokhuispoort Tour
For centuries, it has stood in the centre of Leeuwarden, the Blokhuispoort. Many criminals were imprisoned here. Many also met their end at the gallows on Blokhuisplein. Famous names like Doctor O., Aage M., Klaas B. alias ‘The Preacher’, and of course the Hogerhuizen brothers, made history here. A thrilling building with masterful stories about escapes and the tough life behind bars, told by former guards.

We’ll take a look inside the impressive cell block of A-wing. You’ll be guided across the courtyard and squares and marvel at the bunker and, of course, the isolation cells in the basement of this “castle”.
