Festive Opening of REDBAD: The Legendary King

Be there on the very first day of REDBAD: The Legendary King, an epic new exhibition at the Fries Museum. This Saturday, 5 September, the exhibition opens to the public for the first time, with a host of special activities and workshops to celebrate.

Discover the story of King Redbad and his early medieval North Sea realm – a world of conflict, ancient gods, diplomacy and revenge.

Who was Redbad really? The powerful warlord who took on the Franks? The staunch pagan who refused to be baptised? Or the diplomatic overlord who managed to unite several coastal regions?

In REDBAD: The Legendary King, we travel back more than 1,300 years in time. Spectacular archaeological finds, internationally renowned masterpieces and new scientific research bring the world of the seventh and eighth centuries vividly to life. Marvel at the world-famous Odin from Lejre in Denmark, discover richly decorated swords and jewellery, and come face-to-face with the extraordinary Man of Bernuthsfeld.

An epic story of power, faith, trade and war along the North Sea coast. And of a king who became a legend.

On Saturday, 5 September, meet historical characters from Redbad’s time and experience history up close. Be among the first to play the REDBAD game by Mythemakers and step into the landscape of the eighth century yourself.
