Mijn Engel, ik geloof je

Opera

26 February until 8 March

This spring, Opera Spanga brings a special production to Leeuwarden: Mijn Engel, Ik Geloof Je (My Angel, I Believe You). This tragicomic opera, with an intriguing touch of ‘whodunnit’, was written by Irma Achten and composed by Tjalling Wijnstra, known for Madam Scrooge.

The story centres on a young woman who lives according to an animistic principle: everything in nature has a soul, and humans, animals and plants are all interconnected. To her, the bears in the forest are friends and family. When she teaches one of them how to use weapons and becomes engaged to a bear, it sparks confusion and anger among those around her. During an elegant masked dinner, her father is shot and everyone points to the bear as the culprit — but is he truly guilty?
