Beyond the Horizon
until 15 March
Those who live within a landscape give it meaning and shape it in return. In this exhibition, artists from the Fries Museum collection explore the sea, tides and forests, as well as specific regions such as the Arctic, the Wadden Sea and the rainforest of Suriname, each in their own distinctive way.
Those who live within a landscape give it meaning and exert an influence upon it. This principle lies at the heart of the Fries Museum’s approach to collecting contemporary art. In this exhibition, artists from the Fries Museum collection explore the sea, tides and forests, as well as specific regions such as the Arctic, the Wadden Sea and the rainforest of Suriname, each in their own way. For these artists, their connection to nature is the point of departure whether physical, spiritual, speculative or critical.
The presentation brings together both recent acquisitions and earlier works by Cristina Lucas, Henk de Vries, Wally Elenbaas, Witho Worms, Wout Berger, Constant Dullaart, Erin Jane Nelson, Dodi Espinosa, Kinke Kooi, Katja Novitskova, Marjet Zwaans & Totomboti, and Juul Kraijer.
This exhibition is on view until 15 March 2026.
