Huub Mous on Faded Dreams in Friesland

Lecture/Debate

Sunday 20 September

Inspired by the exhibition Leeuwarden Never Built at HCL, Huub Mous gives a lecture on the ambitious plans and ideas for Friesland that were never realised.

The lecture covers not only abandoned building projects, but also modernisation plans – both real and imagined – and, above all, visionary works of art that once held out the promise of a different Friesland.

Behind the image of an unchanging province lies a history of belief in progress, utopian ideas and ambitious visions of the future. What does it say about Friesland that so many dreams never made it beyond the drawing board? And how have those unfulfilled aspirations helped shape the way Frisians see themselves?

Faded Dreams in Friesland will offer a richly illustrated overview of remarkable ideas that never became reality.

Organised by HCL in collaboration with Aed Levwerd.
