Jan Folkerts on In Nij Begjin

Lecture/Debate

Sunday 22 November

Jan Folkerts (1953) talks about the eventful years between 2000 and 2008, when he moved from Zwolle to Leeuwarden and made a new start, both personally and in his role as municipal archivist at the Leeuwarden Municipal Archives.

A new city, a new language and the transformation into a revitalised cultural institution that has since become an integral part of Leeuwarden. But what has stayed with him most is the energy that was unleashed when HCL opened up a new perspective. While independent city archives were being closed down across the Netherlands, we in Leeuwarden – sometimes against all the odds – forged our own path. And successfully so.

Organised by HCL in collaboration with Aed Levwerd.
