Bicycle route along the Dokkumer Ee
On this cycling route, you head north from Leeuwarden straight through the Leeuwarder Bos (Leeuwarden Forest). The route passes several Stinzen (manor houses), such as the Dekema State in Jelsum and the Martenastate in Koarnjum. You cycle alongside and sometimes straight through meadows, past medieval churches, windmills, and along narrow cycle paths beside the Dokkumer Ee. In spring and summer, you will see many boats sailing past there. The Dokkumer Ee is part of the Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour), and you will also cross the famous bridge at Barthlehiem. Along the way, you will pass the Grutte Pier Brewery and beautiful villages such as Wyns, Burdaard, and Snakkerburen. Naturally, we also provide tips on where to eat and drink. You can shorten the route at Wyns by taking a ferry. Distance: 20 to 32,5 km.
