NNO Halloween Concert: Horror and Orchestral Nightmares
Friday 31 October
Do you dare let conductor Risto Joost guide you from subtle unease to the raw horror of a spine-chilling climax?
What makes music frightening? This concert features iconic film scores from Halloween and Dead Space, alongside classics such as Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, in which witches perform a macabre dance. Mussorgsky’s The Hut on Hen’s Legs evokes the dark legend of Baba Yaga, while Bartók’s eerie sounds from The Shining create a haunting atmosphere. Also on the programme: Saint-Saëns’ chilling Danse Macabre and the oppressive Prelude from Verdi’s Macbeth, revealing how music gives voice to our deepest fears. From whispering strings to explosive orchestral outbursts, this concert is a tribute to the power of musical horror.
