Dekema State was originally a noble residence, where several families lived until 1996. The noble residence and the gardens are now open to the public.
You are most welcome in the country estate so you can go back to the last century. A thorough viewing takes about two hours.
You can also view the garden around the estate, or sit on the terrace for a cup of coffee.

Explanation of accessibility: Unfortunately, the building is not wheelchair accessible due to the narrow corridors and stairs. However, we have a folder of photos of the property to give you an idea of the interior. The garden is wheelchair accessible.
Notes accessibility OV: From the bus station in Leeuwarden, take bus lines 154/60/72.
Get off at the "Jelsum, Vijverzathe" stop.
Notes parking: By car, drive from Leeuwarden towards Stiens and then take the Jelsum exit. Follow the road that turns right. In the village, you will find the entrance to Dekema State on the left. There is parking here (P1). The access is signposted from the main road.

The best way to find it is to enter the address "Op 'e Terp 9, Jelsum." This is the address of the Dekema State entrance building on the other side of the estate. You can park behind this entrance building (P2) or at the church (P3). The parking spaces are signposted.
