Public Transport & Parking

Leeuwarden is easily accessible by public transport. Leeuwarden Centraal train station is within walking distance of the city centre and is the main railway hub of Friesland. The bus station is located next to the train station, and from here you can take a bus to the city or to surrounding towns. Need to get to your destination quickly? Catching a taxi in front of the station is a piece of cake.

Train
Leeuwarden is easily accessible by NS Intercity train, which arrives and departs several times an hour. In addition, there is a direct connection to Groningen by Arriva train. There are also train connections to Sneek, Stavoren, and Harlingen (which connect with the ferry times to Vlieland and Terschelling).

Bus Charter

Arriva and Qbuzz provide public transport by bus in and around Leeuwarden. You can find information about departure times at Arriva , Qbuzz , and via the journey planner 9292.nl.

Place for everyone

In Leeuwarden, a good parking spot is always within reach. You can exit the Zaailand, Klanderij, Oldehove, Hoeksterend & Oosterstraat parking garages 24 hours a day. When entering the city, follow the signs to a parking garage. These signs indicate whether the parking garage is available and what alternatives are offered. Staff are always present in the parking garage to assist you. Toilet facilities are available, and strollers are for rent.

You can also park your car at one of the three P+R sites: at Kalverdijkje on the eastern city ring (free parking), at the WTC-Expo on the western city ring (€4,00 per day), or behind Central Station (max. €5,45 per day). All P+R sites are indicated on ANWB signs.

Bicycle sheds

You can park your bicycle for free for the first 24 hours at the Central Station. In the center of Leeuwarden, you have the option to safely park your bicycle, moped, or scooter in the bicycle parking facilities at Zaailand and on Sint Jacobsstraat. Parking your bicycle there is free for the first 7 days. (Temporary) parking of your bicycle, moped, or scooter is also free there. Minor repairs can be carried out in the bicycle parking facilities, and you can rent a locker.

Bike rental

You can rent a bicycle or e-bike at various locations in Leeuwarden. At Fietsstation 058 (Schrans 22), you can rent a regular bicycle with gears or a fast e-bike. These two options are also available at Van der Valk Hotel Leeuwarden , even if you are not staying there. Do you have a personal OV-chipkaart? Then you can easily rent an OV-fiets at the station.
