Park Vijversburg

Park Vijversburg is one of the hidden gems of Fryslân and is located close to the city of Leeuwarden. Yet, in this park of over 30 hectares, you feel far removed from the city. A park full of surprise and wonder, suitable for all ages. And open every day.

The estate was largely laid out in the 19th century by the Ypeij family. For this reason, it is popularly known as the Ypeij Forest. Roodbaard's hand is immediately recognizable in the historical layout of the park: winding paths, small bridges, and numerous water features. But also the exciting grotto, the hut with a hidden hermit, and an aviary where several peacocks roam freely. And then there are three new park sections where you can discover and experience even more: a deep pit where you can roll around, an underground crawl tube, and swings in the hedge. And how about an underwater bridge?

As soon as you enter the park, art is immediately in sight; a pendulum dancing in the wind and a concave-spherical bridge that leads you into the park. In total, you can discover about twenty artworks that are beautifully fused with nature. Art for young and old, from art connoisseurs to explorers. Did you know that the purple treehouse is also an artwork?

Tired after your long wanderings and voyage of discovery? Then lie down in one of the hammocks, grab a book from the bookshelf, and enjoy. Suitable for youngsters of all ages. There is also plenty of space in the park for picnicking, either under the trees for some much-needed shade or on the lawns basking in the sun. On Sundays, the tea room is open in Villa Vijversburg. Check the Park Vijversburg website for additional opening hours during holidays and the summer period.

Dogs are not welcome in the park, but service dogs are.
