Dorita Savert's work asks questions about the way we observe, how we translate these observations and thus perceive. The Hortus Botanicus originally served as the starting point. In the most recent work, it is the artist's garden where unusual plants are grown. The at first glance figurative, poetic landscapes and floral still lifes turn out on closer inspection to contain a second layer. The fictional worlds can be read as an uncommon ode to nature. Details of flora are sometimes extremely enlarged and in other works minimized. Parts of old maps, botanical drawings and diaries are added. For the exhibition Wondertooneel der Nature*in Kunstuitleen Friesland an overview of works that can be read as an imaginary garden has been put together.
