With A Flor do Recomeço, Salvador Sobral is breaking new ground. The Portuguese singer and Eurovision winner is releasing an album featuring only songs by Brazilian composers for the first time. The album was recorded in São Paulo and produced by Marcus Preto and Tó Brandileone. The release is scheduled for the second half of the year.
For Sobral, this is more than a new album. It is also a return to the music he grew up with. On A Flor do Recomeço, he sings new songs by Adriana Calcanhotto, Arnaldo Antunes, Chico César, Céu, Marcelo Camelo, Mallu Magalhães, Marcos Valle, and Tim Bernardes, among others. The title comes from a poem by Eveline Sin, which was set to music by Chico César.
Sobral deliberately chose an approach that stays close to the source. He worked in Brazil with Brazilian musicians and creators, without attempting to imitate the music. It is precisely because of this that the album sounds authentic and credible. According to Sobral, the whole forms a strong and cohesive collection of songs, with room for the character of each composition.
During the European tour, he performs this new work live with his band. On stage are Katerina L'Dokova on piano, André Rosinha on double bass, Eva Fernández on saxophone, Joel Silva on drums and percussion, and Sebastià Gris on guitar. The result is a program where Portuguese and Brazilian influences meet.
