Eleven Alley Walk
Walking along alleys, narrow passages, and courtyards in the oldest part of the city.
Leeuwarden is a true city of alleys, just like Harlingen and Amsterdam, for example. In 1870, Leeuwarden's city center had as many as 66 alleys that were less than three meters wide; 50 were even smaller than one and a half meters. Their total length is more than two kilometers. We often do not stop to think that the oldest alleys in Leeuwarden date back to the late Middle Ages.
