A View From Nowhere

In A View From Nowhere, four members of the Association Against Doubt step onto a golf course. They want to capture universal ideas about the world and banish doubt, but become entangled in thinking, talking, stuttering, and golfing. This musical and philosophical performance is based on a composition by Annelinde Bruijs and is the second collaboration between Bruijs, writer Maartje Wortel, and director Suze Milius.

In A View From Nowhere, four characters step onto the grass of a golf course. They do not know each other personally, but they are all members of the Association Against Doubt. Their goal is clear: to capture universal ideas about the world, so that doubt finally disappears. But it soon becomes apparent that thinking, talking, and golfing are less simple than hoped. No one really makes progress. Perhaps only in their stuttering.

This musical and philosophical performance reveals the tension between the desire for certainty and the failure of speaking. The basis is a composition by Annelinde Bruijs. Annelinde Bruijs is a composer, singer, and actress, and creates work with her own company, Studio Bruijs. Previously, she created Portretten in Concert at Orkater and performed in productions including Merkel . Additionally, she studies philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

In addition to Bruijs, the acting and vocals are by Reinout Scholten van Aschat and Suzan Boogaerdt, among others.

Following the successful Ground Floor at Orkater, A View From Nowhere is the second collaboration between composer Annelinde Bruijs, writer Maartje Wortel, and director Suze Milius at Orkater. Together, they continue their exploration of the verbatim musical, in which spoken language forms the basis for a new libretto.

Suze Milius works as a director in the Netherlands and Belgium and previously created De familie Mansøn for Orkater, among others . Marijn Alexander de Jong is affiliated with performance collective URLAND and also works as a scenographer. Maartje Wortel is a novelist and columnist and has written several award-winning books.

Driven by a shared love for collective work and musical exploration, the makers join forces once again in a performance about doubt, language, and the desire to get a grip on the world.
