Exhibition about the Frisian Foundations 1940-1945.

During the Second World War, the peace of the Frisian countryside gradually gives way to fear and tension, but there is also determination and courage among those who join the resistance. From 1943 onwards, there are several resistance organizations that devise and carry out sabotage actions, but also arrange hiding places and conduct raids on town halls and distribution offices. It is extremely dangerous. What if you do not return home after such an action? Who will take care of your loved ones then?

This constant threat creates close bonds between the resistance fighters. That camaraderie leads to the promise: 'if one of us falls, the others will take care of your loved ones.' It is precisely this sentence that forms the basis for the founding of the Sneek 1940-1945 Foundation and the Friesland 1940-1945 Foundation. Foundations that have supported resistance members and their surviving relatives in various ways for decades, and continue to do so today.
